Dancer, choreographer and Ballet Hispanico founder Tina Ramirez will receive the Dance/USA Honor award, and writer, advocate, presenter, preservationist and dance leader Sali Ann Kriegsman will receive the Ernie, named for the late Ian "Ernie" Horvath. Both awards will be presented on June 4, 2009 during the Dance/USA Honors Celebration in Houston.

Randy Gener, senior editor of American Theatre magazine, has received the 2007-2008 George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism. The award, chosen by the heads of the English departments of Cornell, Princeton and Yale universities, honors "the American who has written the best piece of drama criticism during the theatrical year (July 1 to June 30), whether it is an article, an essay, treatise or book."

VSA arts of Kentucky has received the VSA arts Award for Excellence in Educational Programming for its SIDE BY SIDE program, in which students with disabilities collaborate with seasoned artists. The program also received a $15,000 award from Crusade for Children.

The Broadway League has awarded $5,000 New York Education Grants to the Broadway productions of Manhattan Theatre Club's The American Plan by Richard Greenberg, and to 9 to 5: The Musical.

Dori Berinstein

Three-time Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Dori Berinstein has received the Commercial Theater Institute's Robert Whitehead Award for outstanding achievement in commercial theater producing.

The new TKTS booth in New York's Father Duffy Square has received the Travel + Leisure magazine's 2009 Design Award for Best Public Space and the 2009 Design Award from the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Theatre Development Fund has announced the recipients of the 2009 Irene Sharaff Awards: William Ivey Long, Lifetime Achievement Award for theatrical costume design; Bob Crowley, Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Theatrical Design; Clint Ramos, Young Master Award; and Sally Ann Parsons, Artisan Award.

Jonathan Kendrick, founder of the London-based ROK Entertainment Group, will return to the company as chief executive officer. He replaces Laurence Alexander. ROK Entertainment creates revenue-generating mobile technologies and applications.

OPERA America in February honored the four recipients of its 2009 National Opera Trustee Recognition award: John T. Cody, Jr. of The Dallas Opera; Richard Holland of Opera Omaha; Beth Ingram of Lyric Opera of Kansas City; and C. Guy Rudisill III of Piedmont Opera.

Sphinx Organization has announced the winners of its 12th annual competition for young black and Latino string players: cellist Khari Joyner, first place, Junior Division; violinist Alexandra Alvarado Switala, second place, Junior Division; violinist Michael Casimir, third place, Junior Division; cellist Tony Rymer, first place, Senior Division; double-bassist Benjamin Harris, second place, Senior Division; violinist John Sanderson, third place, Senior Division.

Grantmakers in the Arts has relaunched its blog, Economic Turmoil and Change, which focuses on what grantmakers are doing to face the current economic climate. The blog can be found at: http://giarts.wordpress.com/.

Bogdan Roscic became president of Sony Classical in April. He most recently served as managing director of Decca Music Group, and previously worked as vice president at Deutsche Grammophon and managing director of Universal Music Austria.

Eda Holmes

Neil Munro, associate director of the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, has stepped down for health reasons. His successor is director Eda Holmes.

Kenny Barron

Kenny Barron received the BNY Mellon Jazz 2008 Living Legacy Award in January at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The ceremony included prior Living Legacy awardees including Billy Taylor, Oliver Lake, Doris Reid attending for Rufus, Randy Weston, Jimmy Heath, Reggie Workman and Larry Ridley.

Chloe Moss

The 2009 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has been awarded to British playwright Chloe Moss for her critically acclaimed play This Wide Night. British playwright Lucinda Coxon also received a Special Commendation award for Happy Now?

The Music Center of Los Angeles County in March announced the winners of the 27th annual BRAVO Awards for outstanding arts education in California. Lindero Canyon Middle School in Agoura Hills received the school award. Tyke O'Brien from Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles received the Generalist Teacher award. Receiving Arts Specialist Teacher awards were Suzanne Culbertson, Christine Godfrey, Typhani Harris, Joanne Karr, Leo Krubsack, Kaye Ogita and Amy Rangel.

Barry C. Hughson has been appointed executive director of Boston Ballet, effective in June. Hughson comes to Boston from Atlanta Ballet, where he served as executive director for two years.

Ticketmaster has acquired Front Line Management Group, and as a result, Front Line founder Irving Azoff will become chief executive officer of the renamed Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc.

Henry Woronicz

Veteran director, actor and producer Henry Woronicz will make his debut this season as executive producer of Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. Woronicz previously served as artistic director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and also worked with Boston Shakespeare Company and the Utah Shakespearean Festival.
